Discover how I became a family photographer in Lanarkshire, Scotland. From new mum to newborn and wedding photographer, this is the story behind my photography journey.

My photography journey didn’t start in a studio, or with formal training, or even with a business plan. It started in the most ordinary- and most life-changing- place… becoming a mum.
My little boy was born in 2017, and like most new mums, I found myself constantly reaching for my phone and camera, trying to freeze every tiny detail. But something unexpected happened along the way. What began as simple snapshots quickly turned into something deeper. I started doing little “mini photo shoots” with him at home, completely in awe of how beautiful he was and how quickly he was changing.

I became utterly obsessed with capturing him- is expressions, his tiny features, the way the light fell across him. I just couldn’t stop. And in that season of life, something clicked for me. I didn’t just love taking photos of my child… I loved photography.
At the time, though, I didn’t have the confidence to do anything with it. It felt like something other people did- not me. So instead, I followed a different path that kept me close to what I loved: working with children. I worked in a school supporting ASN children within a fully supported department, and I genuinely loved it. Being around children every day felt right. But even though my job was meaningful, it didn’t quite light up that creative spark in me. That part of me stayed quietly in the background.

Then in 2023, my second little boy was born- and everything shifted again.
That same feeling came flooding back. The obsession with capturing every tiny detail. The awareness of how fast time was passing. The realisation that this wasn’t just a passing interest for me- it was still there, just waiting. And this time, I knew something important: if I didn’t try, I would regret it. So, I did it scared.
I bought my first camera and just started. I photographed everything I could, teaching myself how to use natural light, experimenting constantly, and slowly building confidence behind the lens. I photographed families, children, moments- anything that let me learn and grow.

From there, I completed several courses learning all about my camera, studio lighting and postproduction, and I also had the incredible opportunity to learn from a highly respected Scottish family photographer and master craftsman in newborn and family photography. I learned so much about studio lighting, safe newborn posing, and how to create beautiful, timeless images while always prioritising safety.
And from that point on, everything just grew.

My love for photography grew into something I couldn’t ignore. My confidence grew. And what started as a personal passion became my full-time career as a family photographer in Lanarkshire, Scotland. There are moments in my job where I pause and think, how is this my life?
When I’m snuggling a brand new baby in my cosy home studio in Lanarkshire, or having a giggle with a one year old smashing up a cake during their Cake Smash and Splash. These aren’t just “photoshoots,” they’re memories in the making, and I get to be right in the middle of them.

It never stops feeling special and I am endlessly grateful for every family who trusts me with their story, their children, and their most precious moments. That trust is something I will never take lightly.
And now, my journey has naturally grown into Scottish Wedding Photography too- which feels like the most beautiful extension of everything I already love. I still get to capture emotion, connection, and real moments… just in a different setting, with a different kind of magic.

So if you’re here reading this, welcome. I’m so glad you’ve found me. This is just the beginning, and I genuinely can’t wait to meet more families, welcome returning ones back into the studio, and continue capturing all those fleeting, beautiful moments that make up your life.
